• The Launch Control Systems team is responsible for designing, building and testing the software, hardware and networking systems that will be used to launch the next generation rocket (Space Launch System) for NASA. As part of the Launch Control System Team, you will be responsible for taking conceptual ideas and making them a reality.
• The System Engineer / Thread Lead is the process owner for Software and Hardware development. You will be the driving force for turning concepts and ideas into tangible working products. The successful candidate will be able to lead the team through the multiple phases of the product delivery life cycle; requirements definition, conceptual designs, design reviews, product development, testing and troubleshooting, product and document delivery. The ability to solve problems, build on new ideas, and assemble seemingly incongruent information into an actionable plan will be key traits to bring the team to repeatable, successful solutions.
Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
• Responsible for End to End technical integration of requirements through the product lifecycle
• Responsible in providing a clear product definition and its incremental buildup at each software and hardware iteration.
• Responsible to review, impact, control and document any requirements changes.
• Participate in Design Panels, technical assessments and analysis tasks to understand how new capabilities will impact the products, along with dependencies from other software as it relates to these new capabilities.
• Participate in problem reviews and work with Software and Hardware Development to determine how changes to the software/hardware will impact other areas of the system.
• Manage and contribute to the requirements tracking system
• Work with NASA processes and tools and coordinate with NASA personnel
• Clearly communicating progress and forward plan to the team, management and customers
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Certification/Other Requirement:
BS degree accredited college or university and ten (10) years of progressive, relevant experience. Additional education may be substituted for experience.
• Must have experience working in a software development environment
• Must have experience working with requirements (development, definition, documentation, etc.)
• Must have leadership experience (Project Management, team lead, test lead, product owner, etc)
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
• Requires the ability to interpret written information and effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
• Experience writing technical documentation for building, integrating and analyzing software/hardware systems products and configurations
• Experience JAMA, VersionOne or related requirements management and work performance tools is highly desirable
• Proficiency with Linux Operating System is a bonus
• C++ and/or Java programming experience is a bonus
• Create presentations and present to management and customers as need arises.
Physical Requirements
• Will be required to climb stairs in order to access equipment for trouble shooting.
• Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment.
• Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
• Physical requirements are: sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.
• Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.
Work Environment
• Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.
• Position may require daily individual to travel to different areas on site.
• Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility.
• Climbing ladders and platforms may be necessary.
• All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.
