Job Description:
- Support operations and maintenance of a complex airborne and terrestrial tactical communication system providing voice and data services in real world operations.
- Manage, maintain, troubleshoot, and administer the airborne and terrestrial networking and Linux components of a communication system.
- Administer equipment and environments which include Linux servers/clients, network attached storage devices, virtual machines, routers, firewalls, and TACLANEs.
- Tertiary duties include maintaining and troubleshooting voice services including Asterisk call managers and Cisco Unified Border Element (CUBE).
- Assist and develop proficiency with performance of other engineering and operational duties as required in support of the 24/7 deployed operational network.
- Work closely with an Active Duty/Government customer as well as internal Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).
Required Education:
- Bachelor's Degree and 2 years’ experience. An additional 4 years of experience in repair, configuration, troubleshooting and operations of network devices and computer systems may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Required Skills:
- Experience administering Linux and Cisco client/server systems
- Manage IP based networks
- Good understanding and practical experience with routing protocols (EIGRP, BGP, IGRP, etc.)
- Implementation of GRE tunnels, IPSEC, and other tunnel modes
- Working knowledge of DMVPN, NTP, SNTP, VLANs, 802.1X, 802.1Q
- Ability to solve technical problems involving voice and data services over a network
Desired Skills:
- Combination of in-depth Cisco based IP networks, system administration experience with Linux and Red Hat Virtualization.
- CISCO CCNP or greater
- Experience with High Assurance IP Encryptor’s (HAIPEs), KG-175’s, Red Hat Linux
- Experience with general computing and a working knowledge of military communication systems (SADL, MIDS, VHF/UHF radios)
- Experience with COMSEC (SKL/TKL)
- Experience working on and around aircraft and understanding of airborne equipment installation operation, maintenance and testing procedures and processes is highly desirable
Additional Requirements:
- Candidates must be able to complete a medical screening and obtain medical insurance for overseas locations.
- Must be willing and able to travel up to 75% (some travel to hazardous and austere deployment areas) and multi-month overseas assignments.
- Candidates will be expected to work on 3-month assignments followed by 3 weeks off (R&R).
- Candidate will also be responsible for maintaining travel readiness requirements to meet next assignment needs either prior to departure or during their R&R.
- Candidates must pass a physical health assessment and meet the minimal standards of fitness in alignment with AFCENT requirements.
- Premiums and uplift pay in addition to base salary are available for certain international assignments.
- Additional pay may be available for: extra hours worked, shift differential, hazard location pay allowance, hardship area allowance, danger pay allowance, and substandard housing allowance.
