GN&C Modeling and Simulation Lead Engineer

Houston, TX

This position will work with developing on-orbit Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) simulations in support of Commercial Visiting Vehicle missions to the International Space Station (ISS).

The selected applicant will:

  • Lead a team of engineers in CCP GN&C simulation development activities
  • Identify and assign team simulation tasks to resolve simulation related issues, assist team members as needed
  • Maintain a project schedule and report status to the customer and Project Lead/Management
  • Provide math modeling and simulation development, integration and testing of commercial visiting vehicle GN&C systems
  • Develop formal math model and simulation documentation
  • Directly interact with the NASA customers, along with various NASA support contractors, during technical meetings and working groups
  • Perform other duties as required
Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school with five (5) years of related engineering experience, or a Masters degree from an accredited engineering school and four (4) years of related engineering experience, or Ph.D. from an accredited engineering school.

Skills and experience should demonstrate:

  • Experience with Linux, C/C++ and/or Python
  • Experience with version control systems, git
  • Experience developing, verifying, and validating math models and simulations
  • Ability to apply knowledge and experience towards timely completion of technical products and services
  • Experience in technical leadership of simulation software development teams
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills and the ability to work in a team environment consisting of NASA civil servants and various contractor employees
  • Strong leadership skills

Requisition Preferences:

  • Orbital mechanics and GN&C principles
  • Spacecraft rendezvous, proximity operations, and docking
  • Experience with Git/GitLab
  • Previous experience with simulation visualization and graphics packages, particularly JSC EDGE or DOUG
  • Experience with:
    • JSC TRICK Simulation Environment
    • JEOD (JSC Engineering Orbital Dynamics) modeling package
    • LaTeX
    • TCP/IP socket programming
  • Experience in product delivery and management utilizing source code management tools
  • Experience performing Monte Carlo simulation and analysis
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience with project management tools, resource estimation, and risk management
