Experience Requirements:

  • Practical experience maintaining and troubleshooting shipboard radar systems in general (required), AN/SPS-73 radar in particular (highly desired)
  • Practical experience writing technical reports and documenting maintenance and troubleshooting activities.
  • Familiar with shipboard safety procedures including electrical tagouts, working aloft procedures, hazardous material handling and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Working knowledge of Change Requests & Engineering Change Proposals.
  • Familiar with Radar Logistics Support elements including configuration management, training, documentation, and supply support.
  • Familiar with the operation of the Navy Supply System and repair parts ordering.
  • Interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Personal computer skills (competent with MS Office applications).

Position Description:

  • Perform AN/SPS-49 shipboard radar system condition assessments aboard Navy ships.  Perform troubleshooting and failure isolation procedures.  Assist ships force in documenting system failures and required repair parts.  Provide hands-on maintenance and troubleshooting training for shipboard technicians.
  •  Document radar system condition assessment, results of troubleshooting and recommendations for problem resolution.  Collect and report usage and failure data in prescribed formats. 
  •  Provide distance support and/or shipboard troubleshooting for fleet CASREPs and requests for technical assistance.
  • Assist in the preparation of lab and classroom spaces in support of radar upgrades (new acquisition and legacy systems) and modifications.
  • Act as liaison with RMC/RMMCO relative to shipboard radar issues
