Network Engineer

Job Description
Candidate will partake in work both as an individual and on team projects. Network design, troubleshooting, and implementation will be part of the daily responsibilities. Position will also require some on-call, after-hours responsibilities. Candidate will work in the NASA/Langley NICS network team to meet customer support of over 300 network infrastructure devices.  Security clearance is not required, but ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance background investigation.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- BS/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
- 5+ years’ experience in network engineering/design environment
- Professional certification - Cisco CCNP required
- Solid background in network administration and architecture
- Ability to work with NASA and contractor customers in a courteous and professional manner
- Excellent communications skills and the ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision

Specific Skill or Knowledge Requirements
- Knowledge of wireless networking protocols and troubleshooting methods (experience with Aruba wireless vendor is preferred)
- Knowledge of firewall and VPN systems (experience with Cisco ASA firewalls is preferred)
- Knowledge of coding languages for scripting (e.g Python, Perl)
- In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF)
- Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools
- Ability to design and implement special-purpose networks to meet customer’s unique networking requirements
- Familiarity with access control models and network security
- MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, MS Visio experience
- Outstanding customer service skills
- Ability to climb a ladder, work safely at heights while operating power tools
- Ability to run cabling through network racks and under network room floors
- Ability to lift 45 lbs.
