Experience Requirements:

  • Practical experience involving the design, development, testing and fielding of surveillance radar systems. 
  • Experience with evaluating performance specifications and transforming those specifications into system design and test requirements.
  • Experience evaluating reliability and operational availability requirements and their impact on training, manning, life-cycle cost.
  • Experience implementing Systems Engineering Plans, documenting key technical risks, processes, resources, metrics, products, and monitoring scheduled and completed development activities
  • Familiarity with shipboard combat system operation and sensor integration
  • Working knowledge of Program Management reviews, such as Initial Baseline Review (IBR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), and Critical Design Review (CDR) and Program Progress Reviews. 
  • Working knowledge of Change Requests & Engineering Change Proposals.
  • Familiarity with Navy Logistics Support elements including configuration management, supply support, technical documentation, provisioning and onboard allowance.
  • Familiarity with the US Navy installation planning process (desired).
  • Interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
  • Personal computer skills (competent with MS Office applications).

A Master's Degree from an accredited university in engineering, computer science, math or physics is required. For equivalency purposes, two years of experience in the areas specified below is considered equivalent to one year of formal education/training.

Relevant Work Experience:

General Experience: Ten years of experience in conducting engineering development of combat system elements is required.

Specialized Experience: In addition to the general experience listed above, four years of experience in engineering involving surveillance radars such as SPS-48, SPS-49, SPS-67, SPS-75 (TRS-3D), SPS-77 (Sea Giraffe), TPS-80 (G/ATOR) or Dual Band Radar (DBR) is required.

Position Description:

  • The candidate will serve as the Principal Engineer and Technical Lead for our radar team as part of the In-Service Engineering and Logistics support contract in Virginia Beach, VA.
  • Will provide engineering evaluation and advice for the development and fielding of Navy and Marine Corps Surveillance Radar Systems
  • Will participate in developing system performance/design requirements and combat system integration definition
  • Will participate in design and progress reviews for new systems development and major systems upgrades, providing knowledgeable radar design, performance and support recommendations
  • Will participate in Operational Test planning, providing leadership and detailed testing recommendations to ensure thorough performance evaluation
  • Will participate in land based and at-sea radar performance testing and evaluation
  • Will participate in data analysis to evaluate radar performance against challenging targets in various radar propagation environmental conditions
  • Will examine installation design and physical layout plans for reliability, ease of maintenance and suitability to perform equipment or system operational performance requirements.
  • Will serve as the lead engineer for our radar team and will mentor younger engineers and technicians, sharing his/her knowledge and years of experience
