EVA Systems Engineer

This role will be responsible for providing communications engineering support from Johnson Space Center to the largest space station ever built. The successful candidate will act as an integral part of the team to ensure the goal of delivering quality products and services that meet and exceed expectations.
The EVA Systems Engineer will:
Work with and integrate areas of Gateway (the Lunar Orbiting Platform, aka Deep Space Gateway) that interface with, are impacted by, or will impact the Exploration Extravehicular Mobility Unit (xEMU) for missions beyond ISS.
  • Provide support, coordination and awareness of xEMU, EVA and Airlock related topics, issues and decision packages/responses progressing to the DSG&T SE&I Control Board, DSG&T SE&I Design Integration Team Meetings, DSG Control Board and Deep Space Control Board (HQ) forum and others as they are formulated.
  • Provide close coordination and integration with the EVA Office personnel supporting Gateway to ensure a cohesive and integrated voice for EVA for all related Gateway efforts.
  • Provide analysis, review and support of all HAB/BAA/NextSTEP commercial, government and IP partner efforts towards integration of xEMU and EVA capability on Gateway, inclusive of Airlock concepts for each.
  • Act as curator and technical POC for xEMU and auxiliary equipment configuration-controlled CAD models to be used in HAB/BAA/NextSTEP and DSG analysis
  • Act as Modelling and VR POC for EVA analysis in the various JSC and contractor CAD modelling facilities and labs in support of HAB/BAA/NextSTEP and DSG analysis
Required Education/Experience/Skills:
  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of fourteen (14) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and twelve (12) years of direct engineering experience, or Ph.D. degrees and nine (9) years direct engineering experience.
  • Extensive experience with space station, EVA, and space suits.
  • Excellent communication skills.
